In this episode, I introduce our new Summit group director, Dan McCarthy, and talk about the progress being made at the Summit as well as how things are shaping up for next year’s National Jamboree. Don’t forget to register your council’s contingents as well as encourage your volunteers to join as jamboree staff members; there is still time. Please use the comments feature below the video window if you have any questions for Dan and me or to share your experiences in recruiting Scouts and volunteers for the jamboree.
Dan and I look forward to reading your comments and responding to any questions you may have.
Get after it, Dan! Glad to know you are on the project and look forward to seeing what is sure to be a “positve outcome” in a succesful Summit opening. Best wishes for all success in this new Scouting role.
Congratulations Admiral Dan and Welcome Aboard! I am glad to see you are leading the Jamboree Group. Your work with the National Jamborees in the past will serve us well as an organization. I look forward to working with you and your group again in the near future as we did at the 2001 National Jamboree with the Youth Service Division and the OA Service Corp.

Wayne, Congratulations, CHIEF!!!
You mentioned to share success stories and to let you know how things are going…Well, the Mobile Area Council has ALWAYS taken one troop to the National Jamboree…However, we have created EXCITEMENT about the Summit (and have two price points for each troop) & we already will have TWO troops & ONE Venture Patrol going next summer. Welcome aboard Dan and thank-you in advance for giving direct leadership to the vision of the future of the BSA through this new high adventure base. Wayne, keep the video blogs going…It’s a great way to get all the facts out to all employees of the BSA at one time.
Central Florida Council has committed to sending 7 Boy Scout Troops and 1 Venturing Crew to the 2013 Jamboree! Our leadership; scouts and venturing are looking forward to the first Jamboree at the Summit! We are so excited that we are sending a Troop and a Venturing patrol to the 2012 Shakedown. Our volunteers that visited the Summit in March has seen the GO BIG. GET WILD to bring this exciting Spirit back to Central Florida. Thanks for all the hard work in preparing for our Scouts and Leadership at the Summit Bechtel Reserve and the 2013 National Jamboree!
Congrats to both Mr. McCarthy and Mr. Brock on their promotions in the BSA. I am excited to be working as a first time staffer next summer at the Jamboree. I am also hoping to see Mr. Brock this summer at Philmont. I will be working at the Training Center as a Group Leader 1.
As a young adult leader and college student, I was wondering if one of your last episodes could be focused on how interested people can become active as a Professional Scouter. I have seen some basic info about what happens, but I want to see more behind the scenes stuff like hearing about the Center for Professional Development.
Thank you and hope to meet you in person.
